Here are the
details on the Tour of Pain:
Ride Date: July 12, 2008
Start Time: 5.00 am at Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company
General route information: Leaving the Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company parking lot we will travel to the Centennial Trail to Spokane to Upriver Drive, leaving the Centennial Trail at Avista to follow Mission Street to Monroe Street across the bridge into downtown, left on First Avenue and to the Steam Plant Grill parking lot for a food stop, then down Second Avenue to Inland Empire Way to the Spokane-Cheney Road to the Fish Lake Trail to the Cheney-Spangle Road, continuing on Bradshaw Road and Old 195 past Plaza to Prairie View Road, Spring Valley Road, then on H 27 to Latah and Tekoa, following H 274 to Lovell Valley road to I-95 south of Plummer, into Plummer and the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes trailhead to Harrison and past (we will continue on the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes past Harrison for an out-and-back portion so that the total route is a full 200 miles), then on H 97 to the Wolf Lodge area, left onto I-90 for 2 miles, then joining the Centennial Trail past Higgins Point, and finally leaving the Centennial Trail to return to the Coeur d’Alene Brewpub for a beer, dinner and a podium picture!
Ride notes: There is a 1.5 mile packed dirt section of road on the Lovell Valley Road. We used this section of road last year and it was packed well and very rideable. We used this route to avoid portions of I-95 traveling south to Plummer with little or no shoulder and higher traffic.
There probably will be 2-4 blocks of riding on dirt near the Ponderosa Elementary School on Upriver Drive due to road construction (Thanks Tom for the heads up).
The route leaves the Centennial Trail to follow Mission and Monroe due to Hoopfest traffic revisions and courts.
The route is intended to showcase our beautiful riding, including great trails, light traffic roads, our area’s rivers, lakes, farm fields, forests and abundant beauty. It is also intended to be tough (it is 200 miles after all), but rideable.
Food Stops and Support: Food and Beverage stops will be approximately 40 miles apart. Riders with experience and training for a 200 mile ride should be equipped to make it this distance between stops. Ride support will be available on the road and trails, but as the day goes on, it may not be close to your mechanical needs, so please be prepared to deal with minor issues, including flat tires.
Rider Packets: Rider Packets will be available 1-2 days before the event at the Steam Plant Grill, 159 S. Lincoln Street, Spokane, Washington.
Ride Sweep: The ride will end at 9.00 pm. To be a “Finisher” you must complete the course and return to the Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company prior to 9.00 pm. Sunset is at 8.43 pm and “civil twilight” is at 9.22 pm. Please do not continue riding without appropriate bike lights as the daylight declines. A sweep vehicle will be available on portions of the ride to pick up people not finishing or on the course at this time, but there will be limited room, so please make prior arrangements as necessary to support our efforts. If you leave the course or decide to not continue, we will ask you to contact us so that we are aware of who is on the course at the end of the day.
Ride Schwag: All registered riders will receive a commemorative t-shirt, brewery and restaurant deals and the supported ride, including a meal and drink ticket for the Finish Line Festival. In addition, all FINISHERS will receive an embroidered vest with a “Finisher” logo valued at approximately $100, a podium picture and small trophy. The vest and picture will be mailed to you after the event is completed. Vests will not be embroidered until after the event so that sizes available match the finisher list.
Price: $125 – If you finish the ride, you will receive a Finishers vest valued at $100, in addition to the other items and the experience, so the Coeur d’Alene Brewing Company, Steam Plant Grill and Out There Monthly will be underwriting most of the cost of the ride itself and support.
Finish Line Activities – From 3 – 10 pm there will be a Finish Line Festival in the Coeur d'Alene Brewing Company parking lot with live bands, 10 beers to sample and food including Huckleberry Chicken and Bratwurst meals. Please encourage family and friends to join you for the finish to applaud your accomplishment.
